Below is a showcase of the various different ensembles and artists that I work with in Australia. Contact me here if you would like to book one of these acts for an event or festival.
Paco Lara
Francisco Lara Puerto, better known as Paco Lara is an acclaimed flamenco guitarist from the birthplace and cradle of flamenco Jerez de la Frontera, in Spain. Paco started playing guitar at a very young age, when he was only 8-years-old. In 2018, Paco moved to Australia, and Byron is very fortunate to be part of his touring ensemble, performing on cajon and piano. They have toured Australia throughout 2019 and early 2020, and have more touring planned all across the country in 2022.
Arrebato Ensemble
Arrebato Ensemble performs contemporary flamenco, also inspired by various other genres of world, classical and jazz music.
Arrebato in Spanish means “a sudden and intense burst of emotion.” Led by best friends and long-time musical collaborators, flamenco guitarist Greg Alfonzetti and Damian de Boos-Smith (cello, oud fretless bass and guitar), they also comprise of Byron Mark (percussion & piano) and dancer Chachy Peñalver. Together, they create passionately moving performances combining incisive ensemble playing, masterful solos and the beauty and power of flamenco dance.
Shanti Fire
5 seasoned musicians come together to form a special combination of world music sounds, from Indian Classical and Flamenco, to jazz and soulful pop. Featuring the sounds of sitar, tabla, flute, saxophone, cajon, piano, vocals & Indian classical vocals, Shanti Fire is a true worldly sonic experience.
GoldFynch
Deeply personal and poetic, this husband-wife duo have travelled the world performing together. Gavin and Niyati Libotte share their musical stories, drawing you into a space of fragility, beauty and depth that encompasses many facets of the human experience. Tales of travel, tales of finding home, tales of birth, death and reconnection, and some classic tunes we all love and recognise. A unique confluence of jazz, alt pop, folk, soul, blues, Latin and World music. Byron joins GoldFynch when in trio mode, using his unique multi-tasking keys/percussion station.
Gemma Stone Trio
I met Gemma and Anthony through another mutual musician, and these guys sound fantastic together. I am fortunate to be able to join them at times using my keys/percussion station. We perform at venues and corporate functions around Sydney, showcasing a variety of music spanning the decades.
Petulant Frenzy
Petulant Frenzy is a Frank Zappa show – where we play lots of awesome classic Zappa hits, as well as song not so well known Zappa tunes. All of these pieces are great fun (and a challenge!) to perform, and the best part is that it is an amazing 10 piece band made up of some of Sydney’s best musicians. It’s great to be a part of this Frenzy – and hope you can come along and check out one of our shows one day!
Peña Flamenca
Upon returning from my Cajon training in Spain, I met flamenco guitarists Chris Duff and Will Henderson. We started an 8-piece ensemble fusing Flamenco, Jazz, Latin and Argentinean Tango. We use polyrhythms, Spanish melodies, amazing dancers, and the new flamenco touches of flute, violin, saxophone, bass and Cajon.
